Indian markets plunged today taking cues from weak Asian markets. Auto, power and metal stocks fell the most. The Sensex was trading down 293.92 pts at 16,034.33 with 29 components falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading inferior by 85.05 pts at 4,857.75 with 48 components falling. The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a decline of 195.57 pts at 16,132.68, whereas the broad based NSE Nifty started with a fall of 67.50 pts at 4,875.30.

In the Sensex Oil & Natural Gas Corporation contributed rise of 0.13 pts followed by Wipro 0.5 pts, Tata Consultancy Services 0.76 pts, ACC 1.87 pts and Bharti Airtel 2.37 pts.
On the other hand, In the Sensex Housing Development Finance Corporation contributed fall of 57.44 pts. It was followed by Tata Motors 39.56 pts, I C I C I Bank 30.44 pts, Infosys 27.02 pts and H D F C Bank 24.89 pts.

Market breadth was pessimistic with 732 advances in opposition to 1,440 declines.
