14 Dec 2009 Economic Times reports, “India will have a grain surplus of 7.7
million tons when the wheat season begins on April 1, the finance minister said
on Friday.”
Pranab Mukherjee told parliament, “Including the strategic reserves, there will
be adequate food supply, grain availability.”
The worst monsoons in almost four decades, followed by floods in some areas,
have ruined crops and pushed up the food price index an annual 19.05% by
November end. |
